TAIPEI — March 11, 2025 — In an effort to advance students’ English proficiency and foster international academic exchange, National Chengchi University (NCCU) hosted a distinguished lecture by Professor Henrik Saalbach of Leipzig University, Germany. The event was part of an English-taught course, “Research on International Educational Data Analysis,” from NCCU’s Department of Education.
Professor Saalbach, a leading expert in multilingual learning and cognitive sciences, presented his lecture, “The Role of Language and Multilingualism in Learning and Cognitive Processing.” The talk, held on March 11 at NCCU’s College of Education, examined the impact of language and bilingualism on learning and cognition, a topic of growing significance in an increasingly globalized world.
Professor Saalbach was recognized internationally for his research on bilingualism, cognitive linguistics, and language education. His academic journey included affiliations with the Max Planck Institute in Berlin, ETH Zurich, and Peking University. His research integrated theory with applied educational practices and was supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through projects such as Encoding-Specificity in Bilingual Content Learning and Emotion Vocabulary Development.
A frequent advisor to educators, Professor Saalbach was known for advocating effective language scaffolding and inclusive teaching methodologies. His lecture at NCCU provided valuable insights into the relationship between language and cognitive development, contributing to ongoing discussions on multilingual education policies.
