On 10 March, 2025, College of Education, National Chengchi University held an international seminar for graduate students and invited Professor Ka Ho Mok to deliver a talk on “Global Trends in Higher Education Internationalization Its Impact on Student Mobility”. Professor Mok shared his research in global trends in higher education and analyzed the impact on student mobility.  Due to geopolitical tensions, technological advancements, and demographic shifts, the growing rivalry between global powers, particularly the U.S. and China, has led to deglobalization and the regionalization of higher education, affecting student mobility and academic collaboration. Political conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic have further exacerbated challenges for international students, especially those from China, who have faced discrimination, visa restrictions, and policy shifts discouraging overseas education. Meanwhile, the rapid shift to online learning during the pandemic has resulted in widespread dissatisfaction, with students questioning the value of remote education compared to traditional in-person learning. Professor Mok also discussed on the higher education policies launched by Chinese government in three-pronged approach, including Global, regional and local strategies. Professor Mok concluded that the global shift in education policies will intensify competition and collaboration among universities worldwide. Future international education will be shaped by regional alliances, digital transformation, and geopolitical strategies. More than 20 graduate students took part in the international seminar. They were inspired greatly by the insight talk and had an interactive dialogue with the speaker.
